- Neutralize quick defenders. Sometimes you will play against someone who is hard to dribble around due to their quickness.
To minimize their quickness, post them up. Now you have the advantage! - Open up shots for teammates. When you are effective in the low post at scoring, eventually the other team will have to double team you. This will leave your teammates open for good shots.
- Draw more fouls on your opponent. Most players do not like being posted up and will gamble for steels in an effort to stop you from making a play. Sometimes they will have no choice but to foul you.

- Covers up a bad shooting night. Somedays your shot is going to be off. Being able to score in the post and draw fouls is a valuable asset to your team.
- You don’t have to score to be effective.
Being a good post player doesn’t mean just scoring. Rebounding is a forgetful skill that is important to team success.
