Jump Roping for Basketball

girljumpropeThe jump rope is a great tool that can give average basketball players an edge over better players.

A good routine I used to get in shape for basketball was simple and effective. I would go down to Kalama Park basketball court with my jump rope. This routine I called Basic 10. Of course I stretched first! Started with shooting 10 jump shots followed by 100 jump rope reps. I repeated this for 10 rounds or sets.

First round of shots would be from the baseline on each side of the basket. 5 on one side then 5 on the other. The shuffle step is how I began my <a href="http://Jump Rope with 10ft Free Cable, Speed & Adjustable, Best for Skip Training and Personal Fitness“>jump roping. This was a great warm up. You can jump rope any way you want as long as you do 100 reps straight.

Second round of shots would be from the bank shot area.

Third round I shot 5 jumpers from each corner of the free throw line.

Fourth round I shot 10 jumpers from inside the free throw line.

The 5th round jumpers came from just beyond the free throw line.

Sixth round. I went back to the bank shots from each side of the key.

7th round. I got into the low post and worked on my drop step to the baseline.

The eighth round was me just going to the middle.

The 9th round I shot jumpers from the free throw corners again.

The 10th round consisted of jump shots from the top of the key.

Each round was followed by  jump roping for 100 reps. I broke up my 100 reps into 30x30x30x10. The first 30 would be the shuffle step. Next 30 I jumped side to side. The last 30 I jumped forward & back and the last 10 high knee.  After 5 rounds I could do 100 reps of high knee jump rope.  It intensified my workout.

To play ball you need stamina & strong legs.  Jump roping will give you both without having to run long distances.
